Telluride, being less commercialized than most resorts, is unpretentious, friendly, and full of surprises. Combining elegant European style with rustic charm, it retains the vestiges of its mining town roots while exuding a modest sophistication.
The beauty, spectacular views, and fabulous skiing make Telluride a unique ski resort and an unforgettable place to visit.
Check out this video about Telluride skiing: VIDEO
Telluride is a ski resort that traverses two box canyons and has grown over the years to 2,000 skiable acres. It receives an average of 309 annual inches of light, dry snow, which blankets 84 trails, bowls, and some of the steepest terrain in North America. With 24% beginner, 38% intermediate and 38% advanced there is plenty of terrain for all levels. Beginners and intermediate skiers can ride to the highest peaks and enjoy terrain and views typically reserved for the experts. And the best part is, this can be enjoyed without the typical crowded ski slopes and long lift lines you find at other ski resorts.
The Town of Telluride & the Mountain Village:
The town of Telluride was founded in 1878 and its history is evident from a stroll down Main Street. Mining was big. At the height of the gold rush, nearly 5,000 people inhabited Telluride, but now there are only about 2,500. The wealth attracted outlaws, such as Butch Cassidy, whose first bank robbery was the San Miguel Valley Bank. Skiing at Telluride began in the early 70’s and with it came the development of the Mountain Village. With an elevation of 9,500 ft, the Mountain Village offers stunning views of the town of Telluride, 800 ft below. A 13 minute free Gondola trip interconnects the two. Both locations have restaurants, shops and bars to enjoy.
