Check out this VIDEO of Steamboat Cowboy Downhill!
An Austin Skier's Favorite!
As a Texas Ski Council trip you will have additional parties, social activities and racing available!
Famous for its "Champagne Powder ®", Steamboat’s six peaks - Mount Werner, Sunshine Peak, Storm Peak, Thunderhead Peak, Pioneer Ridge and Christie Peak - offer 165 trails, 2,965 acres of terrain and a 3,668 ft. vertical drop to delight skiers of all abilities. The resort sits near the town of Steamboat Springs, but usually referred to as just Steamboat or "Ski Town USA." Steamboat has a rich western heritage and you'll find plenty of cowboys, ranches and horses - so wear your Stetson hat while skiing or your boots around town and you'll fit right in! Best of all, Steamboat has one of the lowest base elevations in the Rockies at 6900' so your night life doesn't have to include oxygen tanks and you can sleep at night!
With an average annual snowfall of 360", you'll find plenty of great skiing (Trail Map)! You'll be skiing on a mountain with 2,965 acres of skiable terrain, 165 named trails spread across 6 peaks. If you're a rider or a free-style skier, put your skills to the test on the Mavericks Superpipe, a 500' long, 56'-wide half-pipe with 18' walls. The adjacent terrain park offers a variety of rails, and a miniature version of the Superpipe with 5' walls - perfect for novices! The mix of trails by ability is: 14% Beginner, 42% Intermediate, and 44% Advanced, with the longest run, “Why Not”, just over three miles. Steamboat also boasts some of the best tree skiing (Alarm Clock Run) in Colorado.
Steamboat was chosen as a Top 10 "Best in the West Snow" ski resort in 2017 by "SKI" Magazine. The Christie Peak Express, a high speed six-passenger lift makes the ride time to the summit of Christie Peak to just under five minutes. An option to unload at the midway station also guarantees easy access to the Headwall area. If you haven’t been to Steamboat recently, the Headwall area has undergone a transformation to make the area more beginner-friendly, with a complete re-grade of the entire terrain, and improved snowmaking capabilities.
Steamboat (pop. 12,088) is a town with a long, rich history and an authentic western flair. There is lots of shopping, dining and nightlife in the town and at the base of the mountain. But most notable is the simple, genuine friendliness and relaxed, down-home atmosphere that will make you feel welcome during your ski vacation.
We'll be staying in the deluxe 2-bedroom/2-bath and 3-bedroom/3-bath condos at Canyon Creek, located about 1/4 mile from the Steamboat Gondola, about 5-min ride in the free private shuttles that run every 10 minutes during when it is busy and are on-demand the rest of the time. The on-demand shuttles are also available to go to dining, shopping and nightlife in the historic downtown district. There is large outdoor heated pool & hot tub and each condo is equipped with a gas fireplace and a washer/dryer.
